“No matter where you are in your feminine life cycle, expression, belonging, receptivity and spaciousness are inherent aspects of being a woman and qualities we need to nurture.”

Charlotte Young

Hi, I’m Charlotte Young and I work as a life cycles educator.

I’m passionate about embodiment and the wisdom of the cycles. One of my dreams is for women and girls to be in tune with their bodies and to take good care of themselves. Learning about the four main seasons in a woman’s life was like being given a map and a torch when I didn’t even realise it was dark and I was in the middle of nowhere. It was a big AH-HA moment and since then my attitude towards my body and also, the arc of my life, has become healthier and kinder. I suppose it was only a matter of time before I became a little evangelical about this stuff!

Through movement, storytelling and circle work, I teach women and girls about the four main cycles in a woman’s life: spring, summer, autumn and winter, so that they become more body aware and self-accepting. Working with women and girls in this way, as well as transitioning into my own Autumn Fem phase, has made me acutely aware of the changes and challenges we experience at the different stages in our lives.

A few examples: Spring Fems are obsessed with their looks and bodies, often rejecting them because they don’t match up to the images portrayed in the media. Summer Fems can get burnt out and overwhelmed by the busy-ness of their lives. Autumn Fems often grieve the departure of their youthful selves and again, reject the reality of their bodies. Finally, Winter Fems can struggle with isolation and living disconnected lives.

These programs aim to foster body literacy, self-acceptance and connection. The four principles around which the programs revolve are belonging, expression, spaciousness and receptivity. I believe that if we are receptive to our bodies and each other, we will live a deeper, more connected and joyful life. When women experience these programs, they feel connected to all of the cycles of their lives and empowered to embrace every aspect of themselves as a woman.

It seems to me that the basic facts of the psyche undergo a very marked alteration in the course of life, so
much so that we could almost speak of a psychology of life’s morning and a psychology of its afternoon.

“Thank you so much for yesterday. It was beautiful, gentle and a privilege to be a part of. Sia loved it and was asking a few questions with a sense of empowerment. It also highlighted for me to treasure these last weeks, months and years of her childhood…”

“I could not recommend Charlotte’s work more highly. She is totally committed to her craft and her own process and yet can hold space for others with great clarity and warmth.”
